El Meson Oaxaqueno, México

The people at my Posada mentioned El Meson. Ducked in one afernoon because it was raining hard. Good selection of beers and mezcales, very inexpensive, nice waitresses. Local Oaxacan clientele, didn't see any tourists. Returned the next evening to try the buffet (95 pesos). Salad bar to start and a girl shaping and making tortillas on the comal while you waited. Chicken in mole negro, frijoles charros, frijoles negros, chile rellenos de queso, nopales, costilla de puerco en salsa, two or three kinds of moles plus salsas and more. Nothing dried out, it's all in sauce. Also with the buffet a sampling of the house mezcal in a small plastic cup. What I really liked? Black beans and rice had been in Mexico six days without eating black beans and rice. And sampling different Oaxacan dishes. El Meson Oaxaqueno might appeal to travelers on a budget, backpackers, lonely planet types. About eight tables plus a counter. Inexpensive menu along with the buffet. Not fine dining by any stretch. Not fancy. But I stilled enjoyed El Meson and the prices.

Right around the corner of the zocalo (main center), so easy to find. Variety of typical kitchen from Oaxaca for 100. pesos. Not many but enough vegetarian options.

La comida del restaurante es muy deliciosa y el servicio es excelente. Sin embargo, le doy una calificación baja porque la dueña trata de forma muy grosera a su personal. Escuché cómo les gritaba a las chicas que trabajan allí los días que fui, incluso cuando hay mucha demanda, también trata mal a los clientes. Espero que tomen en cuenta este comentario para mejorar en este aspecto.

La comida estaba muy bien pero no estupenda. Buena relación precio-calidad.
