It doesn't resemble the standard five shrimp on the edge of a dish with red cocktail sauce. Served in a high parfait glass, it is loaded with shrimp in a very tasty tomato-based sauce with vegetables, onion, probably salsa. So, we got off the ship a second time to come back out for lunch, coming here to order the shrimp cocktail, which was excellent. There was some confusion over the check, which proved to be at my expense, but I don’t begrudge them a few extra bucks. I would return here and get this dish again.
Beware Canadian tourists. This place is a scam. They have people waiting to pounce on you when you arrive at the municipal beach. They will then relentlessly dog you on the beach until you go to their elevated deck overlooking the beach. Its a nice spot and thats how they suck you in. We had 1 margarita 1 beer some cheap tostadas and salsa and they charged us 650 pessos which is something like 45 cad.
Right on the beach, just the place to watch the world go by. We had delightful margueritas and delicious guacamole while some of us ducked into the sea to cool off. Nice friendly staff.
Huatulco is a sleepy little town with not a lot to do. Mexico is trying to build up this port as a destination location. Beautiful beaches and bays to hang out at for a day. Mar y Luz is one of eight bar/restaurants at the port right on the beach. We enjoyed some beers and shrimp tacos. I'm not sure this one is any better than the others but the water is about 20' away and you can spend the day enjoying the ocean, libations, and view.
