After standing in the freezing cold on St. Patty’s day trying to get into the Irish place up the street, I convinced everyone to just give up (and this after I warned them that there was no way in hell they were going to make it into any trendy Irish place at this time of night on a Friday). So up the street the World Cafe had a short line that was moving quickly. The door guy gathered our IDs in one bunch. when he saw mine, he asked, Wow, who is this?? My hair is perfectly straight and perfect in my ID. Then I saw the alarm in his face when he saw me and my hair that frizzed and kinked out while stuck in lines outside in the freezing, moist air. sigh I knew then this is not a night to make the moves on anyone. And of course it was crowded with decent looking guys. We could barely move, barely fight our way to bar for a drink, so we waited for a table. But alas, to sit at a table, we ALL had to order an entree, but we had already ordered pizza from the place across the street while we waited in that Irish line. So we talked them into letting some of us order appetizers. The veggies and hummus and spring rolls were good. Everyone’s dish was pleasing and then they set up a mojito booth right next to our table! Now if that isn’t good karma, I don’t know what is. So now mojito time began and the rum softened my care level of my freaked and frizzed and bent hair. And the bread pudding for dessert is pretty good also!
It’s weird. World Cafe is such an awesome brunch location, as well as lunch. Why, then, does this place not open until 11 am on weekends? I mean, seriously? I just don’t get it. I know LA isn’t that much of a breakfast town, but for a place that actually serves brunch not to open until 11 am means that it will turn the hungry breakfast crowd away. Is that the goal? I remember the food being nice, while not anything special. It’s more the lovely outdoor courtyard that makes it worth it.
