It was just before dinner, and I needed a small caffeine boost not coffee level so I decided to get a simple cup of black tea. Most of the places I usually go to had closed for the day. I’ve driven by La Glida a bunch of times and it looked quaint with a nice patio. They were open, so I went in and ordered a black tea. At first the lady (manager? seemed confused and kept repeating “Americano?” In retrospect I think she may have been trying to guide me to the more expensive espresso drink. Finally she relented and started digging in a small box of assorted teas, and took out a black tea bag. It was the really low end 2 cents for a bag type, but I just wanted some tea. She brought it out to the patio, I drank it, and went back in to pay. She says “2500 colones” almost 4 bucks for a small cup of black tea. Hot water and a 2 cent tea bag! I must’ve looked a little stunned. I asked again and she said “it includes the tip.” I said “are you sure?” and she looked at her computer said “that’s what it says in the system.” She didn’t show me. I handed her 5000 colones, got 2500 back and went on my way. It seemed super sketchy the service charge, and “the system.” I went for dinner and started Googling. There was one picture of a chalkboard menu in her place that listed tea as 1500 colones. I checked a bunch of other places in town just to make sure and the average was about 1500 colones. After dinner I returned, hoping to see the same chalkboard on the wall. I looked from outside, but didn’t see it. I did have the picture saved in my phone, so was going to use that. She was serving a table on the patio so I went inside. I spotted laminated menus on top of the display case, and grabbed one of the drink ones. The manager lady comes from behind and brashly says “if you want a menu, sit on the patio and I will bring one.” I said “”wait” and pointed out on the menu that it said black/green tea 1500 colones. She went back around the counter by the computer, and said “well, in the system it says 2500 colones.” I think she expected me to say “ohhh, the system says that’s how much it is. Well buenos noches to you, I’ll be on my way!” But, I said, “on your actual menu it says 1500 colones, you owe me 1000 colones.” She threw open the cash drawer sending some coins flying said angrily “well, if you gonna argue!” grabbed a 1000 bill and flung it at me. And I left. Do not eat and/or drink here.
Very impolite service and the food was not very tasty to say the least. Our eggs were flavorless and the salad was disgusting. Go somewhere else.
Terrible service. No smile or hello from the owner and her staff. Food was also not that great. Definitely much better and friendlier places in town.
I had a banana split. Perhaps two scoops of ice cream were not enough. However, instead, the cup was full of fresh fruits, Personally, I would have wanted a bit more fo the whipped cream. All in all a fantastic experience (glida means ice cream in Hebrew)
Lots of options and they are all great. Came here multiple times over my trip to Santa teresa! And fair prices.
