Alcázar De Colón - Santo Domingo

Alcazar de Colon is the oldest royal residential edifice in all Americas. It was built under the Diego Columbus (Christofer's son) orders as his residence he shared with his wife Maria de Toledo in the early 16 c. It's a two story bldg one side oriented at Ozama river with great views of the river and Columbus lighthouse and the other side towards the big Plaza de Espana sq. Entry fee is cheap few bucks, and you need less than an hour for a visit. Imo, the authenticity of the furniture is questionable, as the palace was looted many times, heavily by pirate Drake, but it is still a great place to visit in Zona Colonial.

Not crowded, everything was closed because festivities but overall is just a great experience to visit, the Alcázar de Colón. They still have tourists guides that will explain everything and the story of the place. There are several locations to visit around the area too.

Museum is reasonably interesting but quite small with little description on the artifacts. Audioguides are given out at the entrance however I had a tour goide and don't believe I got as much out of it as I might have, since explanation was about little other than it being Christopher Columbus' house which was destroyed by Frances Drake. It's unfortunate the remainder of the building to give a truer idea of how the place functioned.
