Service... not so much. Hubby and I walked into the restaurant at 11:55am, right past a sign that said breakfast was served until 1:00pm. We were seated by our server and handed only a lunch menu. Upon inquiry, we were told we were too late because it was past noon (it wasn 't). As we began to question this, the server heaved a big sigh and said she guessed we could have breakfast menus because, you know... um... it 's not too busy. So gracious. And she maintained her barely cordial attitude throughout the meal. Food... rivals the view. At least the menu item we both ordered does. Both hubby and I indulged in the sausage and biscuit supreme. And supreme it was! The two biscuits were so fluffy they were trying to float off the plate. Luckily, they were held down by sweet and salty pan-fried ham, which was covered by divinely creamy sausage gravy, interspersed with sizeable chunks of peppery sausage. On top, two eggs crowned the huge plate of nom-nom-nom-nom. My eggs were over easy, hubby chose scrambled and topped with cheese. Nutshell: if you 're in Sault Ste. Marie, this is a place you must visit for the view and the breakfast.
I really want to like the Captain 's Grill. There 's a fire place...and a pool table...and a decent view. So every year we end up there, hoping something has changed; sadly, if it changes it is only for the worse. The service is acceptable at best. Unattentive and lacking are typically more accurate descriptions. On Saturday we decided to have a snack while having a couple beers, and opted for the Ultimate Grande Nachos. For $13.99 I expected real food, or at the least, highly disguised canned/premade items. We received a 9 plate with liquid gold, gas station cheese over chips and topped with the most questionable beef I have ever seen. (Seriously, Taco Bells nachos are better and a fraction of the price. There was also something akin to salty snot that we were told was guacomole. I wasn 't disappointed, I was angry...mostly at myself for being duped by a menu that offers hand stretched tortillas . For a restaurant masquerading itself as cuisine , I expected so much more than fast food on a ceramic plate.
As a foodie I committed the cardinal sin and take full responsibility for coming here. If you are the owner or know the owner of this restaurant, please come and see what is going on here or get a manager here. Your staff is not putting a good face in for you. The menu is old and antiquated, the decor is lacking, the waitresses are walking around complaining about everything and then there is the food. The gumbo is average at best and the chicken sandwich that was recommended was tasteless. Please don't let the chains kick your butt, get in and fix this place. Nice view of the locks and parks. Please get help!!!
A beautiful location, relaxing atmosphere and great service and food. The prices are great and there is a full bar. They have TVs in for watching sports too.
