Restaurant La Muraille de Chine

Having booked in advance for 6 persons on Saturday evening at 19.30 we arrived at a relatively empty restaurant. For nearly 1.5 hours we had no communication with the one women server visible despite trying to attract her attention (it was too late to try find another restaurant for 6 people across the bridge in Saumur). Yet there was a continuous stream of takeaway orders being met.There was no apology for the delay from the server, indeed they displayed a certain impatience to hurry up our order.There was nothing special about the food as it proved fairly 'samey'. We have local restaurants in London with far superior fare at same cost.Overall we were at a loss to understand how it achieved its previous overall rating on Trip Advisor. Our advise is avoid.

Good food, in particular the cold pancake rolls (hot are available). Lots of choice and was popular with locals. Outside wasn't overly attractive, but well worth a visit, especially if you are staying on the island.

Went for the first time tonight as a family and couldn't fault it! Fabulous food and reasonable price. Best restaurant we have visited during our stay. We will definitely be back ????????????

This review is not based on having eaten here but having a most unwelcome reception & an awful experience from the chinese woman who appeared to act as if she ran the restaurant. We are a group of 7 - she basically snubbed us & despite us speaking mandarin to her (which she seemed to take as a sign to be downright rude with comments dripping with sacarsm), she refused to allow us to sit at a larger table (which had a setting for 5 & despite us agreeing to squeeze all 7 on the 1 table) & her unwelcome comment was "what if a party of 5 came in - where would I seat them?" Never mind that she currently had 7 customers on hand with no table! We decided to then split our group into 2 separate tables & her flippant comment was "whoever is going to order - just come over to the counter" without providing us with a menu - all this happening while she was welcoming a young couple & fawning over them with menu, taking their order etc in French. When she finally decided to bring us menus & asked for our order - I politely asked her if anything was wrong & if she was unhappy to serve us for some reason - her answer drooling with sacarsm was " don't expect me to welcome you as if you are my long lost father". With that comment, we thanked her and decided to bring our business elsewhere! Based on our experience, I'd give a negative star rating if I could. An extensive world traveller & hailing from a hospitality background, I am usually on the side of the business owner but this chinese woman beats any of my poor experiences hands down! With her attitude, I can only wish her all the best but don't bet on this place being around for much longer!

We went to this restaurant wanting to try the cuisine a la carte. Often in France you find Chinese buffets which are more or less a similar fare if good...We found the menu large and the dishes really good. They were as close to the traditional Chinese cuisine you could get in France. The food was delicious and well served. The décor of the restaurant was nice.My son was served a Chinese adaptation of chicken nuggets ie. chicken slices rolled in thin batter and fried (not oily...), that he absolutely lovedThe service was nice and acceptable, nothing exceptionally out of the ordinary though...A bit expensive if you compare to buffet restaurants in France, but on its own it is definitely good value for money...Overall a nice evening out with the family...On our next visit to Saumur will definitely revisit...
