This is my parents' only choice of family restaurant. They are the regular there. I treated them for dinner along with their friends last night. We had the specialities included double stir-fried lobsters with ginger and green unions. Roasted chicken, Sweat and Sour Pork with...More
This is one of my favorite place for family dining. Good food at reasonable price. I recommend pigeon which is not always available, steam oyster. Service is also better than average. If you don't know what to order, ask them for suggestion. Go during during week days, weekend can become quite busy. They take Visa.
After not having visited this gem of a restaurant for many years, we came back for the hot and sour soup. The soup is hands down, without exception, the best in the city. We also had the baby clams with black bean sauce, the black pepper beef tenderloin and a sweet and sour pork, which we couldn't resist for $6.95. Pictures off all the food are below. Everything was great, the pork was tangy and crispy. The soup was full of tasty mushrooms, shrimp and bamboo. It also had the perfect thick texture. The beef was tender and the onions crunchy. The portions are great and even though the appearance of the restaurant isn't the greatest, the food more than makes up for it. This is not a high end fine dining experience, so steer away if that's what you are looking for. If however you are looking for a great meal at a great price this is the place to get to. Dinner for 2, that easily could have fed 3, $45. And a complementary dessert.
We are Chinese and decided to have dinner at "Fortune House Restaurant" in a Scarborough plaza. Both the outside of the restaurant and the door entry area inside look rather run-down, but the dining room is not bad. Furnishings are well-worn, tables have white tablecloths and there are lots of stuff posted around the walls ... none of this bothered us because it is like a lot of small Chinese restaurants and people go there for the food. The menu has a large Cantonese selection and there is a separate card of house specials. We ordered dishes that we know well, so that we can judge compared to other restaurants. Prices are quite reasonable compared to other Cantonese restaurants nowadays Service is attentive and the food came very quickly ... everything arrived within 10 minutes after ordering.Food was flavourful, but somewhat salty and over-seasoned. Although the dish size was generous, the presentation was mediocre. This restaurant still follows the Chinese tradition of serving complimentary broth soup as a starter and sweet soup as a dessert. Overall, this place is good value for reasonable food.
