Waldhotel Rennsteighöhe - Schmalkalden

We booked this small hotel in the Thüringerwald over the 'Spar Mit ' site for a week hikiing holiday. The hotel looked very simple on the webste wad we were all pleasantly surprised by the accommodation: we had a bungalow for one couple and an apartment for the other three. Both were roomy and comfortable. There are 5 bungalows, 2 of which have been completely renovated with more modern furnishings, a larger bathroom and a kitchenette (these would sleep 3). Those that have not yet been renovated have more old fashioned but very comfortable furnishings and no kitchen. This quiet hotel is in the middle of the woods and on the Rennsteig. The service is excellent and the meals outstanding! Our group booked a cozy table near the fireplace for the evening meals. We will definitely return to this hotel.

We just stopped for something to drink and cake after our museum visit. Decor has a bit of time warp but very welcoming ambiance. Food is reasonably priced. Very good service.
