We stopped off for lunch to and from our trip to Cornwall, friendly staff here and tasty food for all the family. Pub also has a pool table which we enjoyed. Very clean loos : Easy and relaxed pub. The decor is a bit tired but it did the job for us and parking super easy too.
Very welcoming pub, landlord went great to chat and and went out of his way to help me with recommendations for my trip. Lovely place next to the canal with tons of parking.
I wrote a review about the boat and anchor not letting dogs in the pub in 2021. But now they are allowed in we will now use the pub a lot more. It is an ideal place to stay or just pop in for a pint and meal.
Booked in advance for Sunday Lunch and was told plated roast and full menu would be available. Arrived to an empty car park, never a good sign. The pub itself was freezing cold, no heating on. We were one of 3 tables, the rest of the place was empty. Asked if we wanted food (pretty obvious as we’d booked a table) and were offered ‘chicken or beef’. That was it. The chicken was inedible. Dry and hard. The cauliflower cheese didn’t taste of cauliflower or cheese. It was indescribably awful. The beef was tough as old boots. I ate a handful of veggies and left the rest. We decided to bail out before dessert as we were freezing cold and had little hope of the choice or actual food being any good. The staff looked almost apologetic from the minute we arrived. Almost as if they knew we were in for a terrible meal with no atmosphere in a freezing cold big, empty, soulless building. To add insult to injury I was charged £4.60 for half a watery, flat cola and a glass of blackcurrant squash. I’m not sure why I didn’t complain and refuse to pay. I think I was too shocked at how badly the place had deteriorated from how it was years ago when it was packed out for a brilliant Sunday carvery. I had to take my son to Wetherspoon after as he was still hungry so ended up paying for lunch twice. Not happy and will never return while under its current ownership/management.
