Il Vecchio Castagno - SERRASTRETTA

First time here, good appetizer with typical Calabrian products but with some interesting news regarding the usual appetizers of the area. Good also the only first and only second we tasted. I think I'll come back to taste more in the future considering that they're nice and that the place is nice.

We enjoyed authentic delicacies, the owner literally pampered us by making us taste very well cooked dishes using only quality ingredients and practically zero km. Fixed stop if you want to taste the flavors of the Calabrian culinary tradition.

Dinner in total was the perfect food experience. Antipasti for four was beyond delicious and would have been enough to fill most stomacs. Yet the food was so good we took the secondi piatti and desserts too. House red vine was light and good balansing the strong taste of food. Service suoer friendly but only in Italian.

We stayed at the agriturismo „Le Carolee“ near Lamezia Terme and took the 30min drive uphill to „Il vecchio castagno“. The trip is definitely worth it not only because you‘ll get to drive through the foggy Tolkien forest hills of Calabria, but especially because of the amazing food and the hospitality of Delfino Maruca. We highly recommend the antipasto sulla tavolozza! It was one of the best meals we had in the south of Italy.

Our guide took us here as part of a journey into my family roots in Serrastretta. My husband and I were blown away. This was an experience, not a meal. Course after course after course of Calabrian specialties, all exceptionally fresh and perfectly prepared, filled the table; the wine was a great accompaniment; and the selection of house-made liqueurs provided a wondrous finishing touch. We can't say enough good things about our experience and the proprietor/chef. You should not miss this place.
