L'Olivier - Sète

We had a very bad experience in this place which is not entitled to call itself a restaurant. We ordered a Ceasar salad. We waited a long time for the food to arrive. When it did, it consisted of wilted lettuce, two small slices of tomato soaked in a strong and unpleasant dressing. But the piece de resistence was an undercooked chicken leg of dubious origin. Don't be attracted by the pleasant setting of this place because the food is inedible.

Three of us arrived for lunch at about 1.15pm on a weekday in August. There was only one other customer when we arrived and about six when we left. On the menu they have a 'Formule ' i.e. two courses (e.g. a starter and main for €16.50 or three courses for a higher price. We were on a budget so opted for the Formule. Starters: The 'fish soup ' was a chili broth containing two mussels and one whole (guts and all shrimp. Mains: The 'sun dried tomato, pepper and mozarella salad ' had one single piece of sun dried tomato (and a lot of fresh ones , no pepper at all (two varieties of melon instead sadly the person who ordered it doesn 't much like melon it wasn 't mentioned on the menu and parma ham (also not mentioned and not much liked by the person who ordered thank heaven they weren 't veggie, Muslim or Jewish! . When we asked for the bill, we were charged €80. Three 'Formules ' at €16.50 plus €1 extra for a steak, plus three drinks (about €9.50 should have been €60. We queried the bill and discovered they had charged us individually for the meals, not the 'Formule ' they had also charged €18.50 for a duck dish listed on the menu as €13.50 (they showed us a menu where it had been changed in biro from 13 to 18, but this was not displayed on the menus outside . In the end we paid €65 just to get away as we had a train to catch. In short, this restaurant does not serve what is shown on the menu or what is ordered, and tries to con tourists by using an altered menu inside the restaurant to calculate the bill, which differs from the menus outside this is illegal practice. Given that there are a lot of decent restaurants in Sete, I suggest you avoid this one at all costs.

Don't go there! We had the worst service, even though they weren't busy at all! My mussles weren't clean, but they tried to tell us that it was normal but I've never had anything like it any other place filled with dirt, sand and crushed shells and seaweed. And the rib eye steaks were not even bleau (rare) even though we asked for medium. We sent them back, and then we got two completely other kinds of meat (flank steak) cooked in some kind of sauce. Really wierd. Noone spoke a word english, and they weren't very helpfull in french either. Only good thing was the white wine!

Fair service . Reasonable food. Friendly staff. Food similar to many restaurants in this area. Nothing stands out
