Came here 3 times during my stay. A little tricky to find but well worth it, the directions on Happy Cow are accurate, just make sure to turn left trough the plastic curtain when facing the escalators. There is normally one English speaking member of staff but if not the menu has English descriptions and photos. Some dishes come out at different times but that is because it is all freshly made. Lots of mock meats but also some nice vegetable based dishes. I really enjoyed the tangerine flavoured beef, the dumplings, the broccoli with crab powder and the joyful wheat gluten. My favourite however was the hot and spicy vegan fish it was the best food I’ve eaten in Shanghai (a little oily but the flavour was amazing), the portion was enormous and had to take half home. It’s best if you come with a group or at least 2 so you can try more of their delicious menu!
Super Vegan restaurant might be modest in size (maximum size 20 people), but its food is unique in taste and I really enjoyed dining in this restaurant. This restaurant mainly serves Chinese cuisine as well as non-alcoholic beers too. When I first entered this restaurant at around 4pm, I was grateful that it was still opened to customers during their rest time, as their employees were literally sleeping on the chairs. The lady boss who served us was extremely patient as we took some time to pore through the multi-page menu before ordering. As it was our first time, she gave us a list of suggestions which she obtained via people who recommended them online. It didn’t take too long for the food to be served. I ordered their signature vegan egg, sweet and sour mushrooms in clay pot and stir-fried cauliflower. Their vegan egg was simply mind-blowing; the vegan replica looked exactly like the real egg, and even tasted exactly like one! I enquired what was the ingredients in it, and I vaguely recalled – pumpkin, green beans etc. The cauliflower was also appetising too, as I had yet to try stir-fried cauliflower cooked with this flavor. These two dishes were re-ordered during my second visit to this restaurant. After our meal, we had a hearty chat with the lady boss, and she shared with us about how this vegan restaurant was born. I asked if she has any recommendation of bookstore as I was looking for one, and she immediately searched one near my hotel, with the name and exact location written for me! The only drawback was the obscure location of this restaurant even though it is located within a shopping mall. We had to keep asking around in order to successfully find it. The toilets were too far from this restaurant even though it was on the same level, and I kept getting lost. Nevertheless, this restaurant is just next to Dapuqiao train station, and is near Tian Zi Fang and Luili China Museum. I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try since the food is generally tasty and the price is right. Updated from previous review on 2020-07-26
For the first time at this place after he regularly in the filiale in buy now mall. we ordered dishes that I know well and they didn't disappoint. the vegan garnels do not really look out or taste like garnel (so I am happy) but are made in a very delicious spicy crispy teig. the dumplings here are nice, but not my favorite. the crispy mushrooms are still amazing how spicy fryed. the baby aubergine with thai basilikum is a firm favorite. the menu is great and there is so much that I didn't try. they also serve a lunch set that changes every day, they get a teller with small selection of the day, but it is very cheap.
Super vegan was one of my favorite restaurants in shanghai to eat and the prices were also incredibly reasonable. I ate here twice and loved the sliced noodlee with sorted vegetables, so I ordered it twice. the first time I went, I ordered too much to eat, so be careful how much they order when they are alone! The Yuba Appetizer I ordered for the first time was delicious and at the point. the suppe had really great, rich taste and the gluten in the suppe that was delicious and chewing. if this restaurant were closer to my hotel, I would have eaten every day at super vegan. ps: there is not a whole lot of English spoken here, so if they want them to leave something from their teller, forget it. I always asked for no fun and once received a suppe without noodles! lol! and this is even with the google translation! updated by the previous review on 2019-11-03
