The staff doesn't speak much English, but an English menu can be provided upon request. I opted for the oily potatoes, which had a taste of oil I didn't care for. The tofu strips were also dry, and I only managed to eat a quarter of the dish. I left the restaurant still feeling hungry. It may be beneficial to dine in a group for more options and to have someone who speaks Chinese with you.
Traditional food, feel. Most foods are vegan asking for English menu if you do not speak Chinese, ingredients are correctly specified. Only a few dishes contain egg, but they were in separate section of the menu. Food was rich in taste, well cooked (no excess oil or something). Definitely good Chinese food experience for vegans. And don't forget to check the fantastic tea selection.
I'm not really sure about the layout of the two restaurants, as we ended up at the first one but it was two doors down from where we expected. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful, very traditional, and the menu was handwritten with English descriptions. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We decided to try the baked potato, which a review had mentioned as being buttery. However, we thought it was just the natural taste of the potatoes in China, as no butter was used in the cookies they sell. The dish was delicious, served in a small baking sheet, fluffy, and with a slight spicy kick. We also ordered some greens and lotus root steamed in rice flour vegetables curry. The curry had a unique taste, reminiscent of Chinese takeaways in Manchester and was served in a bread bowl for some reason. The lotus root was also delicious, sticky, and not too sweet. The menu offers a different rice dish every day, which we thought was a nice touch. We agreed that we would definitely return with more people to try out more dishes.
Although the restaurant is very small, it has a traditional Chinese aesthetic. For dinner they serve only in the newly expanded location next to the store. Five stars for food! I love how they seasoned bamboo with Sichuan Paprika, salad wrapped with (mildly) spicy soybean curd and mixed cereal with lotusaromes. I asked the waiter if the baked potato had milk in it because she tasted butter, she said no, but other critics had mentioned about butter. not sure who is right, be so careful when you order
We arrived at the restaurant at 9:06 pm last night. Despite their advertised closing time of 10 pm, they informed us that last orders were at 9 pm and refused to seat us. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
