China Kitchen - Shepherdstown

The indoor temperature was extremely high. We ordered sweet and sour chicken as well as orange chicken, but both dishes were overcooked and unappealing. Additionally, we had bugs falling on us throughout our visit. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience.

I absolutely love the people and the food here; they are fantastic. During my time living in the area, I ate at this restaurant at least twice a week. I truly believe you can't go wrong choosing this place. I've seen some negative reviews, but I completely disagree with them. It's a great spot to enjoy a meal with plenty of delicious options!

My chicken was overcooked, and I discovered a bug in my meal. Additionally, my cup was not clean.

This isn’t cooking; it’s just stir-fried food drenched in heavy soy sauce. They didn’t offer a pot of tea, which I consider standard in most traditional Chinese restaurants, including this one. The Hot and Sour Soup lacked both heat and flavor, coming off as bland. The Shepherdstown Five-O tasted like a basic, salty soy sauce stir-fry, with the freshness and texture of food that had been prepared for a buffet several hours earlier and then microwaved. The Fortune Cookie was stale, and the overall atmosphere was unappealing. The counter was cluttered with papers and miscellaneous items, and the restaurant was empty at 5:30 PM on a summer Friday. When I asked if they were open, the unfriendly woman at a table near the entrance merely replied, “The door is open.” I really should have left right then. I can’t believe they are still in business! Very disappointing.

This charming little Chinese restaurant hidden in Shepherdstown is a true gem. I've come across a few negative reviews about it, but I have to say I completely disagree. I've dined there several times, and each experience has left me impressed. While their sushi is tasty, the main dishes are outstanding. Even a classic like General Tso's chicken is prepared to perfection, showcasing the very qualities that made it a beloved favorite. This restaurant captures the essence of why people adore Chinese cuisine.
