I am confused by the other reviews saying they are lovely. The floor was wet throughout, nowhere to put toilet roll so they were scattered on the wet floors! Walls were damp and mouldy. For the price of the meal, you at least want a clean toilet. Food: 4
Great roast! Love the ambiance in this restaurant, service was good and the beef wellington was delicious.
Went for an event so there was a set menu. All the fiodnwas great, very smoky. Service was fantastic, really friendly. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £30–40 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Sunday Roast Beef
All dishes were superbly prepared, subtle flavours that go well together, not overpowering each other and not oversalted as in many restaurants these days. Overall very interesting combination of ingredients. It's a relatively small menu but every dish is cooked to perfection. Dining room is small but cosy, nice for an evening with a friend where you can have a conversation. Service: Dine in
Decided on Sunday lunch at Coal Rooms after a number of recommendations. We could not fault the food however this was tarnished by the standard of service. We had no issue with having to wait 15 minutes for our table to become free but after a further 15 minutes at the table, we were still to be served. After requesting a bottle of wine with one waiter only to be told 5 minutes later by another that it wasn’t available didn’t help matters. It’s also the first time we’ve been offered tap water, only to be charged when the bill arrived. It took 90 minutes before we were served food in the end. The starter was cleared, only to be asked if we wanted a desert menu. The request to knock the service charge off the bill was taken gracefully but there was no apology or enquiry by the waiter as to why we’d taken that decision. At £120 for Sunday lunch for two you’d expect better service. Sadly we weren’t the only table frustrated. A large table to our right were visibly annoyed at the lack of attention as well. This knocked the atmosphere somewhat in the upstairs room. This didn’t look to be the case downstairs.
