Firebirds Wood Fired Grill - Short Pump

We've dined here multiple times without any problems, but this visit was disappointing. Both of our meals and the appetizer were unsatisfactory. The appetizer arrived cold, and the shrimp in our dishes were not only overcooked but also burnt. Unfortunately, this will be our last visit.

We experienced a lengthy wait for our entrees. Initially, we were served the wrong dishes, and then we were informed that the delay was due to my steak being overcooked. They told us it would take about 2-5 minutes, but nearly 20 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. While the meal itself was enjoyable, I was left feeling disappointed by the overall service.

Complete disaster. Our group of three adults and two kids had to wait an absurdly long time for water, bread, and drinks to arrive. In the meantime, my husband's pasta and one child's meal were served. By the time the overwhelmed (but friendly) server returned with the other child's meal and our daughter's tuna salad, the first two were nearly finished. To make matters worse, the prime rib I ordered was no longer available—why not tell me that when I placed my order? We never received the bottle of wine we ordered, but at least we weren't charged for it. The filet I ordered to-go as a replacement for the prime rib was overcooked, done medium-well instead of medium-rare. We will never return to Firebirds Short Pump.

It was my first time at Firebirds. My husband's has been before. I was excited as I heard good things prior. We drove an hour to have the meal. We made a reservation ahead of time and were early for our reservation. We were sat right next to the kitchen, which was not ideal. We had a new waitress who was unsure of the menu. Which was not helpful. We ordered the ahi tuna and two mixed drinks. The ahi tuna came before our mixed drinks. We almost finished the app before we got our drinks, which was a bad start. The mixed drinks were good and the ahi tuna was also good but not much for two people. We ordered two entrees the shrimp and filet and the sirloin with garlic thyme butter. We waited for quite some time over 30 min before I saw my meal be placed in the window. It sat in the window for 20 minutes. During this 50 min our waitress never returned to the table. As we sat and waited, what transpired was that our waitress never put the second entree in. The manger came over and was very kind and offered to assist with part of the check. By the time we got both entrees (mind you mine was still sitting in the window while they prepared my husbands), mine was cold. My entree was then sent back. The manger, was very nice offered to make a new meal, but by the time I could find him, my husband was already done and he would be waiting. The resturant was packed and it took so long to get the food, I ended up not having a meal due to the wait time. It was overall a mess to say the least. They did comp the check. I left there feeling very disappointed. I hope new staff in the future are trained better and not put on high volume shifts.

Firebirds at Short Pump has been a favorite of mine for many years. It never disappoints. I generally order from the Perfect Pairings menu. Yesterday's selections were indeed perfect! I ordered the BLT salad, a long-time favorite, and the seasonal Grilled Piineapple Shrimp and Grains. What a lovely-presented, healthy and delicious mid-day treat. My lunch partner ordered the Tortilla Soup and the shrimp and grains dish and was equally impressed and satiated. I indeed will return before this seasonal offering goes away.
