I've tried countless sushi restaurants throughout Los Angeles, and Yui is one of my favorite go to sushi spots. It's located in a charming little spot in Sierra Madre, relatively unknown (which I like), with no more than a 30 40 person capacity, inside and outside. The service is top notch, but the food is the real MVP. Also, their takeout is fantastic. They package everything well and the food stays super fresh, as if you're eating it at the restaurant. These are some of my favorites: Snow crab sushi (A MUST) Crispy rice with spicy salmon Crispy rice with spicy tuna Tuna lettuce cups Scallop sushi Salmon belly sushi Albacore sushi Yellowtail belly sushi Black throat perch Uni (ask them whether Santa Barbara or Japanese is better that day) Spicy scallop hand rolls w/ soy paper, easy on rice Salmon yuzu sashimi Hamachi cilantro sashimi Albacore special sashimi Lobster tempura roll w/ soy paper (A MUST) Sweet crunch roll with soy paper

Katsu, owner and chef, is a wonderful proprietor. If you sit at the sushi bar (recommended) he is amazing to watch and is happy to explain what he is doing and give samples to help you understand. The food is amazingly fresh, some items still alive before they are served. I highly recommend this wonderful sushi nirvana!!
