I Had the Veal Escalope Vienna style AKA Weiner Art as shown in the picture. Not quite as good as in Munich, but darn close. Also a very good location to people watch
If you were going in thinking that the Paulaner at Clarke Quay was identical to the older, more established one at Millennia Walk, you 're going to be pleasantly surprised. First and foremost, due to space constraints, there isn 't a microbrewery here. And that isn 't a bad thing! While you 'll find the same Paulaner classics as Millennia Walk, they 'll taste subtly different. While the Original Munich Lager, the Original Munich Dark Lager and the Weissbiers feature on both menus, there 're subtle differences in flavour between the ones brewed in Singapore and the ones on offer here that are imported direct from the brewery in Germany. Little differences like the water, for example, make for a different end result. My favourite beer however, isn 't even on the menu at the other Paulaner. The Weissbier Dunkel, or dark wheat beer, is excellent. The darker, maltier flavour leaves an almost chocolatey after-taste, and makes an excellent companion to the food on offer. Happy Hour runs every day, from noon to 8pm, and again from midnight to closing, and there 's live music on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The food is well prepared. Not mind blowing, but they do a good job reproducing the typical German classics. Nurnberger pork sausages were a definite win, cooked till it had that brown, crisp skin, but still juicy and nowhere near dry. The Pork Chop was also delicious, and I confess, I actually gnawed on the bone to get those last few bits of meat. It was a little pink, but I like my pork that way, though I know that some people still feel uncomfortable eating pork that 's anything less than well done. (Side note: you CAN eat pork medium, or still pink, as long as you 're sure of the supplier or the restaurant. Overall even those this Paulaner doesn 't have the 'glitz ' of the microbrewery, I do have to say that I much prefer the broader selection of beers at this outlet. Actually looking forward to going back and trying their beer cocktails as well.
Try the three or four munich and hefe beers on tap. 50% off before 10pm so drink away. However, they don't serve water here to go with the beer. Trod over to 7-11 at Liang Court for mineral water. 10% off for HSBC Revolution card too!
Maybe we were there on a bad night, but we found this restaurant unprepared to serve most of the items on the menu that we ordered, including the brie appetizer, the beef pot roast, and the trout. The pork chops that we did order were listed as being served with vegetables. In fact, what was served was pork loin and lettuce, and not particularly flavorful. On the positive side, the dunkel beer was good, the potato side dishes were savory, and the pretzels were hot and fresh.
