Despite these drawbacks, the food more than makes up for the inconvenience. The prices are on the higher side, but I wouldn't classify them as exorbitant. Would I return? Absolutely. So why not give it five stars? Honestly, it’s the service. Most of the staff's English is limited, making it difficult to understand them at times. Additionally, they seem to rush through their tasks; simple actions like placing utensils on the table can end up sounding like they're banging them down. It’s also hard to get their attention; they always seem either busy or hard to find. I expect this kind of service in mainland China, but not in Singapore, especially not at Tim Ho Wan.
I had a delightful meal featuring a variety of dim sum and several signature à la carte dishes. The fried rice with crab meat and ebiko was delicious, although it could have benefited from a bit more wok hei to enhance the flavor. The classic fried char siu buns were excellent, generously filled and crispy on the outside. However, the steamed dumplings served with a mala sauce were a bit underwhelming; they lacked the bold flavor I was hoping for, possibly due to their smaller size. The pork ribs were fantastic, complemented by the flavors of steamed yam and black beans. The phoenix claws were average, but the salted egg custard buns really made up for it, ending the meal on a high note. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience with attentive service and a reasonable wait time for a table. Additionally, I appreciated their efficient takeaway service counter—definitely a plus!
Tim Ho Wan is a great spot for hot dim sum. This location typically has a long queue during meal times on weekends. While waiting, we were given the menu to place our orders before entering the restaurant. The food was served quickly, hot, and delicious. I especially loved their chili sauce. The seating was comfortable. However, due to the busy peak hours, the staff was quite occupied. I requested additional chili sauce, which they acknowledged, but it never arrived. The prices are on the higher side, but it's definitely worth a visit every now and then.
The food kept the good standard. The Pu Er Tea was very fragrant and served really hot the temperature which I like. The service was average. No smile, no warmth but efficient and competent.
One of the many Tim Ho Wans that have popped up across the whole island serving the famed and popular Hong Kong cuisine of dim sum items as well as more current dishes with noodles the feature. Service was attentive and food was served efficiently. Queue system was also good given the long line.
