Lakeside Grill - Smithville

Today, on September 4, 2024, for the first time, my mother ordered the crab cake benedict, which at $16.99 is likely the most expensive breakfast item on the menu. Unfortunately, the crab cake was so overcooked that it was crunchy. She took only a couple of bites of one of the two eggs, leaving the other egg untouched. She politely explained to the waitress that it didn’t taste right (she has had eggs benedict before) and asked to replace it with an order of chicken tenders, which is her usual choice. When the check arrived, we were charged full price for everything: $49.80 for two people. This didn’t sit well with us. When my mother raised her concerns with the unhelpful waitress, she was told, “Well, you ate half of it." After some back and forth, she was offered a 20% discount on the entire meal, or $9.96 off the total. She was disappointed because most restaurants would provide a full refund if a customer is unsatisfied. Another waitress, who seemed to be more senior, offered to call the owner. After waiting a few more minutes, she returned to claim (incorrectly) that my mother had eaten half the meal and that the best the owner could do was offer 50% off the crab cake benedict or a reduced refund of $8.50. Already frustrated, my mother decided not to finish her meal, put her food in a to-go box, and we left a cash tip on the table before heading out. The restaurant was getting busier, and thankfully, another customer held the door open for us. After all this, the waitresses couldn't even be bothered to provide a bit of extra customer service by holding the door for us. It’s safe to say that Lakeside Grill has lost a regular customer who usually tipped around 30%.

Charming little restaurant in the village of Smithville. The food was fantastic, and our server was friendly and very knowledgeable, answering all our questions as well as those from other diners. I ordered the crab melt sandwich, which was excellent. My son had a burger with a side of spinach, and he really enjoyed it. It must have been amazing because, let's be honest, not many kids love spinach! Lol.

We consistently enjoy a delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere whenever we visit. The staff is excellent.

What a delightful surprise! After leaving AC, we were looking for a spot to grab lunch and explore, and we stumbled upon Smithville—what a charming place! We decided to eat here, and while some of us opted for breakfast and others for lunch, everything was delicious. The onion rings might just be the best I've ever had, and the French toast was fantastic. What a great discovery! We'll definitely be back, especially considering the very reasonable prices.

What a fantastic little restaurant in Smithville! We stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday, and it was pleasantly quiet. The place was clean and had a cozy atmosphere. Our waiter was incredibly friendly with a wonderful sense of humor. We ordered the crab cake melt with a side of fries, and since we were sharing, they kindly separated the meal onto two plates for us, complete with a pickle and sauce for each—now that’s great service! The sandwich was loaded with crab and not overly breaded, making it very fresh and well-seasoned. The cocktail sauce paired perfectly with the sandwich, and the pickle was a nice addition—crispy and not too sour, helping to cleanse the palate. The fries were outstanding—super crispy and perfectly seasoned. I will definitely stop by again the next time I’m in Smithville!
