The chicken and vegetarian sandwiches were quite tasty as was the cold coffee with ice-cream. On a separate day, we ordered dinner and most of it was quite disappointing. The chicken was tasteless and bordered on being tough, the baked vegetables had no flavour whatsoever and the garlic cheese bread was chewy. Only the tomato soup passed muster.
This rooftop cafe is located near St. Luke's Convent School on the old Kalka Shimla Road towards the end of the main market of Solan city, known as the Mall Road. If you want to avoid the crowded city market, you can take the Solan Bypass Road and turn right at the Rani Laxmi Bai Circle towards Solan city, but this route is longer. The food arcade serves sandwiches, burgers, bakery and confectionery items, Chinese and Italian cuisine, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian tandoori snacks, and Indian curries. I would recommend trying the mutton and chicken curry, as well as the grilled sandwich. The burgers are decent, but I would not recommend the Chinese dishes. The views from the rooftop cafe are nice, which is a rare find in Solan city. Paid car parking is available and they offer take away and home delivery options. They also host birthday parties. Please note that there are 8-10 steep steps to climb, which may be difficult for the elderly. The cafe is open for business from 12 pm to 9:30 pm daily, however, the service can be a bit slow.
We stopped at a restaurant on the Kalka-Shimla highway for a quick lunch and I must say, the quality of food here is unmatched. If you are traveling to Shimla, this is the only place where you will find such delicious food. Make sure to ask for Mr. Rahul Kapoor, as he is one of the best hosts I have ever encountered!
The restaurant's name is misleading, as they primarily serve burgers rather than buns. The menu is quite limited, with many listed items not available. The choices are limited to a small selection of burgers, juices, crushes, and coffee. While the burgers are well-grilled, they are considered overpriced.
Met the couple who own DDK on a train and they were kind enough to give me and my friend one of their apple pies.... WOW!! This was easily the best apple pie I've ever had!! Filling was delicious with added sultanas and the pastry was to die for!! Will defiantly make a trip to Solan next time to visit the bakery!
