The seafood mixed ceviche was everything we remembered it to be. The wine by the glass was 75 pesos. A pleasant surprise for just off 5th avenue. All in all, it was a great meal and experience until we asked for “la Cuenta”. The bill. Our server came back to the table and quoted 550 pesos for the meal. He did not give us a paper check. Our bill was actually 465 pesos. He added 20%. When questioned, he said it was mandatory 10% in this region. We are seasoned travellers and know that is not true. It’s actually illegal to add the tip onto the bill in Mexico. When questioned again about the amount, he said it was 520 pesos. It went down 30 pesos. Still disappointed but we paid that and left. If he originally did not add the tip (propina) he would have gotten more than 20% because the meal and service was great. So, great food, excellent prices and good service. Just watch the end billing practice. It really put a damper on an otherwise great experience.
We saw many locals eating here and we know why—-tasty, well prepared food at a reasonable price. We had grilled octopus and pescado al ajillo. Delicious! Also, good people watching form the open dining area..
