They served us a whole trout (head and tail included), which freaked some people out. But after they showed how to easily get two fillets without bones, everyone seemed to enjoy it. Was served with polenta, which was great. The appetizer course was a charcuterie plate of cheeses and meats. Dessert was a walnut ice cream with a liquor generously drizzled over it.
Sitting outside for lunch in such a beautiful spot as Sonogno on a nice weekday before too many visitors arrive already puts this grotto into positive territory. The exceptionally friendly staff made the experience even better. Each of the four of us enjoyed our different polenta lunches very much. I have eaten in several different grotti and would rate this among the better preparations I’ve had. The only downside I can cite is the house merlot is mediocre, so I advise choosing something else.
If you are visiting Lavertezzo in Tocino then continue driving to the end of the valley where in Sonogno you will find this wonderful restaurant. Sit outside under vines being served by a group of incredibly warm and friendly woman whilst looking into the valley. It will be a beautiful end to your visit to the valley
We really fell in love with this little restaurant: an astonishing view, really good, simple, genuine food, with an excellent service (joyful, personal and warm), and a really nice feeling of home. There are not many places left in Ticino that have such a passion for true restaurantion and welcoming people. The people working there really love their job .... and it translates into the result.
Very authentic restaurant with a small selection of local specialities. They taste really good and are very nicely presented. The ladies running the place are highly entertaining.Prices are very fair. There is a large outside area ready for a drink with the locals on a balmy night.
