South Blend is cozy and unassuming. I came in for the first time today not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. I got the low rider breakfast: I don’t usually get waffles because they’re usually pretty bog standard. The “crack” waffles are a game changer!! They’re like a cross between a waffle and a crispy donut with amazing flavor. The chorizo was a great contrast to the sweetness, and the hollandaise was buttery and subtle. The fried egg overtop made for the perfect bite. Highly recommend
I cannot say enough good things about South Blend Cafe. Probably my favorite place I've stumbled on in South Bend. I love being able to support businesses like this. The owner, Kim, is always in house grinding and engaging people to make her cafe better. And she stayed open during the pandemic doing takeout, making sure to keep her place accessible and clean safe. Getting to the food, the coffee is constantly being turned over so always fresh. Her fruit and veggies never seem like they aren't just as fresh, which is nice. I have to put out a plug for the Low Rider sandwich. It's chorizo, eggs, hollandaise sauce, and green onions on a waffle Crack waffle. I sub in some cheese for the sauce and get it on a crack waffle. It hits hard. Almost too good. She's added doing pizza regularly as well, which is unsurprisingly also tasty. If I had one criticism it would be that there could be more vegan options. But The Mess without cheese and a few others do serve that purpose. Overall, this place earns 5 stars and then some. Pro tip is that there's (for now) a nice discount for hospital workers or people who live in the building and get delivery. The food here is outstanding, the service is splendid, and I always just feel pleasant when I leave. Creative name is just a bonus. I wish only good things for South Blend Cafe.
The coffee is an A , I don't think I've ever had a better latte. The food was splendid! But it's slightly overpriced. The service is great. I would say that the atmosphere reminds me a bit too much of a cafe and not a coffee shop considering the price and the quality of the good offerings. Overall I suggest visiting!
I ate this ridiculous hangover breakfast sandwich which kept be satiated almost all day though some heavy physical labor (and may have taken some days off of my life). I like this place but everything is a little over sweet to me (coffee and food) which is why I 'm taking one star off.
