Visited with family last night. Only group eating and had to wait absolutely ages for our meals. Very limited menu, nothing like it says online Burgers only meal that was any good, chicken meal very dry, my pasta dish very greasy oily and small portion. Staff worked hard and apologetic regarding wait. Very tatty surroundings that needs a lot of work. Not good enough, dissapointed.
This is an old pub with lots of character. My wife and I ordered drinks at the bar and was taken to a seat in the restaurant area and ordered food and I was pleasantly surprised, I ordered liver and bacon this was delicious with lots of rich grave and very reasonable priced £13.00. I saw other people order the fish and chips and wow it looked good. The service was impeccable the server was knowledgeable about the food and drinks It was a pleasant afternoon. There is also a free car park which is bonus
Frequently visited the Duke's Head prior to lockdown and was always happy with food and service in relaxed environment. Unfortunately it has since changed hands and it's not like it used to be, even though the menu is the same. Service was slow and the chef doesn't seem to understand the concept of serving hot food... everything was cold, or tepid at best, and not at all enjoyable. Should've known as soon as we arrived that there was a problem as the place was nearly empty and this is always a good indication of the standards! I will miss the old place but won't be going back there unless it changes hands again.
Unfortunately, the chef does not seem able to understand what people want. Also the one thing on the menu said' ask which curry of the day' was on. Waitress did not know !! Customer asked is it madras or Korma to get an idea of spicyness, but was just told chicken curry??. Please get a better menu chef. This used to be place people would drive miles to eat at, what a shame. Just go back to original menu x
