We decided to visit the tearooms based on their excellent rating and the beautiful photos we saw on TripAdvisor. When we arrived, we were surprised to find that the tearoom had been transformed into a diner. Initially, we were worried we may have went to the wrong place as we were looking for cafe food and not burgers or hotdogs. Luckily, we found hot sandwiches on the menu and I ended up ordering a delicious bacon and egg sandwich with a side of fries. The fries were hot, crispy, and tasty. My husband opted for the loaded fries which had grated cheese instead of cheese sauce, which he wasn't too thrilled about but still enjoyed them. Despite his dish, I was very happy with my choice. The decor, although now diner style, still had a vintage and charming look with cute touches like matching cutlery holders. The service was excellent and overall, we had a pleasant experience.
I stopped by for a light meal and was not impressed. The breakfast sandwich looked good and my two friends thought it tasted good. However, the chicken and bacon sandwich contained chopped up nuggets instead of breast meat, which I had to send back. The chips tasted like they were cooked in old oil, the hot chocolate was bitter, and the scone was hot, doughy, and tasteless. At £32, it was a disappointment for a place off the beaten path that we will not be in a hurry to revisit. The young lady serving was helpful and very apologetic when asked about the filling, but as the owner, I would be concerned that sandwiches are being sent back.
This USED to be a lovely tea room with proper tablecloths and themed on 'The Forties '. The food was great and the service was really good with waitresses dressed in the style of that time. A delightful step back in time. We took visiting family there for a late lunch just on 2o 'clock this week. I so wish we hadn 't bothered. There was nobody else in the room at all that should really have given us a bit of a clue! Hot dog and chips was a hot dog roll with 2 ordinary cheap sausages in. The jacket potato was the only one left should have been another clue! It was luke warm, overcooked with impossible to cut and eat skin. The tomato ketchup holders were grubby and the sauce inside was a curious orange colour and certainly was not ketchup as we know it. No tablecloths, no napkins, no forties style. in fact, not style much at all. Would I go back? Certainly not.
Although cake prices the same the slices sizes were so different One slice huge another small. When I questioned this it was swopped. Very busy had to wait a whhile to be served. Coffee okay but nothing special tbh.
