We wanted something for our grandchildren and unless you choose one of the few bars serving meals Michael’s and a couple of other cafes exist. Nuggets and home made chips for the kids, veg soup for hubby and an americano coffee for me. It’s not the Ritz but it’s clean, plenty of friendly staff and obviously very popular.
We have visited this cafe in the past and we found it to be ok re food staff etc. however visited today for a snack/ light bite and was totally amazed at how other customers were allowed to put their dogs on the seats and one customer even allowed her dog on the table. I am aware that a lot of cafes allow dogs now and that is fine but I do not think it is very hygienic /appropriate to allow them on the chairs and tables. I witnessed one waitress stop to speak to a man with a dog and she had a plate of food in her hand for someone else)and as the dog was on the seat it was sniffing towards the plate. Not a good look at all. This visit has put me off going again.
Me my friend have dinner here after we’ve been to the gym,Staff are always lovely and welcoming and nothings a problem. We love the homemade chips there so always ask for them on our jacket potatoes lol.I’m vegetarian and sometimes get the vegy burger with chips and peas. The food is always delicious and excellent value. It’s the best place to eat in South Shields
Me and my Mam used to always come to the corner cafe at South Shields until she sadly passed away . On Saturday i took my girlfriend and the quality of the food and service was amazing , we both ordered Mince and Dumplings with Chips and FRESH veg and it was absolutely delicious (nearly as good as my Mams) , we waited less than 5 minutes and it arrived ,, very very fast service , someone had complained on Trip Advisor that the tables had not been cleaned well all i have to say is as well as fast service serving food , as soon as someone left the table was cleaned and the pots taken away , may be they came at a real busy time remember the waitress only has one pair of hands , she might have been dishing out food at the time. We thought the meal was fabulous cheap and cheerful at £4.50 and the quality totally excellent. We will be back on our next visit , i actually work in the Market Place monthly on a Friday so i may see if they do a takeaway box i can eat behind my stall.
Visit mid morning. Sat at able which had not been cleaned, leat alone sanitised. So moved tables. Menu choice is poor, Vegetarians not catered for. I ended up with a cheese and onion toastie, which was awful, like wise the latte , warm milk no coffee. I won’t be visiting again.
