Living in Southampton 18 years and just never thought about going in because of the old menu which for me, I was not a fan. Thumbs up to this welcome Southampton newbie with a new concept. Woo Hoo. This place is a real disappointment. Used to be a regular customer at Shippy's under the old owner. This new rendition isn't worth your time or money. The new owner thinks he is Ray Kroc and this isn't a Mcdonald's even though you will get better service there. Dreadful old queen! Definetly nothing like it used to be, they have small portions and don't cook well at all, would be better off cooking at home, it'd be 5x better if they knew how to cook! this is like sitting at Applebee's I ordered the 12oz ribeye and it was $43 and a 1/2 inch thick, go down the street I can get a better steak from stop and shop for $8-12, 1/3 the weight of the steak was fat and you used to be able to get a real strip steak for $25 at the original restaurant! Chicken spetzel was pounded so thin it turned to leather in the fryer, only thing that was good(unmolested) was the salad, the French onion soup would be good if you didn't burn the top up, nobody is paying 17$ for a McDonald's sized smash burger Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2 Recommended dishes: Tossed Salad
We tried the new “Shippy’s” for lunch this afternoon. It was great seeing our bartender friend Tom, he is fabulous. That’s about where the greatness ends! My soup was not good at all, Tim’s Ruben which was a special, not on the regular menu was OK, the fries were good. Maybe if it was not called “Shippy’s” I’d have been more satisfied and would not expect the deliciousness and unique ambiance of the old place. That being said we will definitely be back to have drinks with Tom after eating elsewhere. They did a great job renovating a classic Southampton staple. The food is reasonably (for the Hamptons) priced and definitely delivers on quality. The fries are incredible, McDonald's style, almost a carbon copy. Excellent sandwiches and pasta. Good beer selection, good service and a solid bar to hang at.
