We were warmly welcomed by attentive staff who were exceptional throughout our visit. Luckily, we arrived early enough to secure a window seat, offering stunning views on a clear day. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, creating an elegant dining atmosphere perfect for our special occasion. The red lanterns added an authentic touch to the ambiance. As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of options available to me. For starters, my husband ordered meat dumplings (not sure if they were duck) and I had the Vegetable spring rolls, both of which were delicious. For our main courses, I tried the chili tofu, and despite not being a fan of tofu, I was impressed by the dish. We also enjoyed some spicy vegetable noodles and my husband ordered the chili cod, which was deep-fried cod in a delicious chili sauce. The only drawback was the price, but considering the quality of the food and the occasion, it was well worth it. We look forward to returning to Hutong in the future!
We recently received a gift voucher to dine at this restaurant. The staff were excellent and the waitress was very nice. The view of the skyline was also amazing, especially during sunset and at night. The food was good, with the duck being a standout dish, incredibly delicious. We opted for the peony set menu, thinking it was a tasting menu as suggested by the man who seated us. However, it turned out to be a set menu with very small portions for the price. The main dish only had 6 cubes of meat between the two of us, with the rest being pieces of chilli. While the food was tasty, the portion sizes did not match the price paid and need to be increased.
The restaurant was amazing and everyone was super friendly especially Darshan who was so lovely and made the night even more special, if you get home as your waiter you are in luck.
Pretty faultless food service with lunchtime set menu On a negative non food point try sitting in one of your dining chairs and trying to move it either forwards or backwards Pretty much impossible
We had a very positive experience until the last half hour. The food was delicious and the service was attentive at the beginning, but once we’d finished our main courses it all started unravelling. For a restaurant this expensive, I’d expect them to clean the table properly before desserts, but there was still bits of rice everywhere when they handed over the dessert menu only one for five of us. The dessert menu was tiny only three options) and I got the distinct impression that they didn’t want us to stay for pudding at all they wanted us to leave so they could get someone else in and flog them some cocktails and a peking duck £110 for a whole one). As it was a special occasion we decided to have pudding anyway, but one pudding was missing and we were still eating when they brought the bill. It was my husband’s birthday and I saw other tables being brought special birthday desserts and we were not even though I had noted that we were there for a birthday celebration on the booking. When we finally got the special pudding it was swept away from us while we were still eating it and I had to ask for it to be returned. I get that they have a time limit on tables. If a restaurant can serve me a three course meal in a seamless relaxed way in two hours then that’s fine, but Hutong proved that they couldn’t. When the bill was almost £600 it was annoying to be asked to pay it before I had finished eating. I won’t hurry to return.
