On this visit to Captiva, (Jan 2010) we decided to give it another try partially because we didn't feel like driving back to Sanibel for dinner. What a mistake! Although the atmosphere is fun and the live entertainment was good, it could in no way may up for the horrible food. All three of our dishes were just about inedible. I had the Shrimp scampi, the shrimp were mushy and the sauce tasted like a cheap salad dressing was just poured over the dish. I actually spit two shrimp into my napkin and totally lost my appetite. My brother had the Keylime pasta which was penne with sirloin tips. He said it tasted like dog food. My husband ordered broiled grouper with lobster, which he said was terrible. Unless you are just looking for a place to drink and listen to music....run away and don't look back! Yuck!
Every winter when I travel to Florida, I go out of my way to drive down to Fort Myers and out to Captiva, just to eat dinner here. I have never had a bad meal, and my last visit was very memorable a seafood risotto that was the stuff legends are made of. In keeping with the name, the key lime pie is the best of over a dozen places I've tried over the years. The atmosphere on the patio is a big part of the experience. It's such a quiet, peaceful corner of the island that you can easily forget you're in the middle of a busy resort area. Live music is a huge asset. But above all the food and the service is always excellent too.
Keylime Bistro used to be one of our favorite spots on Captiva but it has fallen into decline or just maybe apathy. The food was poorly prepared and service at our table was bad. Won't be going back there for a meal maybe a drink and to listen to the music but never again for a meal.
We eat on the patio here, and never are disappointed. Food is fresh and good. Platters are attractive. Seafood is the best to order.
After driving over an hour for a special lunch at the Keylime Bistro, on New Year's Eve day (noon), we were thoroughly grossed out! As we sat outside, the septic tank truck ran next to our table twice! they needed 2 trucks! My $10 drink was weaker than lemonade, the lunch (crabcakes)was awful. Over $55 to sit and smell and really be disgusted. I'm bet the owner would be furious that is unless they approve of that service being done during lunch hour on a special day. Not a good way to start out the year!
