Last week, I visited HTBC with a group to enjoy a meal and play Bingo. From the start, the experience was lacking. Strike One: The cashier was visibly frustrated and indifferent when we placed our orders. My wife had to repeat her order multiple times because the cashier seemed distracted and uninterested. When it was my turn to order a sandwich with onion rings, I specifically asked for no condiments, including their aioli. Strike Two: When our food arrived, I was dismayed to find balsamic vinegar all over my sandwich. My wife approached the staff to explain that we ordered it without any condiments, but the cook refused to take it back, insisting it was their "signature sandwich." I find it hard to believe that well-known restaurants like McDonald's, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and Pizza Hut don't accommodate customers’ preferences for their signature dishes. Strike Three: Since we were going to be there for a while, I put the sandwich in a to-go box for someone else in our group to take home later. I then attempted to enjoy the onion rings, only to discover they were so overcooked that the onions inside were practically burnt. Next, we moved on to Bingo. Strike One: I stood at the bar for several minutes waiting for the bartender, who was engrossed in conversation with a familiar patron. Strike Two: When the Bingo caller started the game, she expressed her frustration about being stuck with the duty and mentioned that it was only her second time calling. The overall experience was chaotic; it felt like trying to follow the NYSE while the TV screen displayed something entirely different. Even senior centers manage to run Bingo games more smoothly! There is no Strike Three because by this point, our entire group had decided that enough was enough. The experiences I've outlined are far from what anyone should expect from customer service. I will not return to this establishment or support anything associated with it in the future. If anyone asks about HTBC, I strongly recommend choosing another place instead!
Sweet hometown find. Great local atmosphere that makes you feel welcome. Even a selection of games and books from Tennessee and brewing. The food is ordered to the right and the person who took our order at the walk up window was friendly and helpful. The menu was not huge, but there's nothing I didn't want to try! The burgers were delicious, good onion rings and good broccoli salad. My husband is a chili snob, and really liked his cup of chili. The cook gave us a number and found us on the brewery side of the house when our food was ready. We also had great service to the left in the brewery side of the house, friendly and informative. My husband tried the home brewed stout and was pleased.
The setup is a little funky. The Restaurant and Brewery are two separate entities within the same building. I am kind of surprised they are still in business with the very awkward entrance, watch your step. It's an ankle twister, fall hazard if your not paying attention and they keep the place dark, so you can't see the floor transition. I've been there 4 times. The food is Good, definitely better than okay. The prices are very reasonable. Kid and dog friendly. I know a lot of people like to sit outside. 4 Stars might be a stretch but it's definitely more than 3.
Super Fun Stop. Good Beers, Good Food, Indoor or Out. Always something fun going on from live music to music trivia and more. If you are in Sparta, this is the spot to stop.
