Playfair's Steak House - St Andrews

Playfair 's is a small steakhouse restaurant, very close to the famous golf course, The Old Course. It is located on one of the main streets of the small town of St Andrews, on North Street. They have a small terrace at the entrance, down a few steps, which makes you isolate from street traffic... The restaurant is decorated with the typical British pub touch, very cozy! My trip and I went for the same dish, and it seems that a lot of the people in the restaurant at that time, too, I'm not surprised! The Steak Sandwich was the chosen one, Take steak to the iron, caramelized onion and a delicious mustard mayonnaise! All accompanied by the Chunky Chips (gross and richest fries that I have tried in a very long time!You cannot miss this site if you visit this jewel of the Scottish coast! :

Service very slow even though the place was quiet. Some staff seemed to spend most of their time chatting. We only had a few snacks but they were very good. Outside area could have been cleaner. Staff were slow to clear tables so a large seagull did it for them.. Food: 4 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3

I had high hopes based on the reviews, but unfortunately, my experience turned out to be disappointing. The service was good and the staff were responsive when I complained about a dish, which was promptly removed. However, I can only describe the food as poor. The sourdough was tasteless, the chicken supreme was inedible, and the chips were fried in old oil. We did not bring up all the issues, as the waiter was attentive and understanding. To make matters worse, I was unable to leave a tip on my card, as the waiter said it would not go through. The restaurant is in a good location, but I would recommend avoiding it.
