Not many people get excited about hospital food. However, the Sandstone Cafe at Dixie Regional Medical Center has many options to choose from. They have warm and cold sandwiches and several other daily cooked entrees with different side options to choose from. The menu rotates every day. The chefs are great. This doesn't taste like your standard Sysco food. It actually involves some preparation and is a much healthier option compared to most restaurants. The best part is that the prices are very low. It is hard to even find fast food for the price that you can buy a meal here. I highly recommend that you try it.

Update February 21, 2018: For breakfast, I enjoyed a Western omelette, cinnamon swirl French toast, and some bacon juice. I'm being discharged today!

Is it odd that I've been eating here for years? Whenever I mention that I intentionally visit the hospital for meals, I always find myself having to explain. The reasons are quite straightforward: they offer a great variety every day, the food is generally healthy, it's very affordable, it's served quickly, and I often walk away with a large salad that lasts me for two meals. Essentially, I get two healthy meals for around eight bucks—how can you beat that? Speaking of salads, I have to ask: where are the onions? Am I just missing them every time, or do they not include them? They offer three types of cheese and hard-boiled eggs, but no onions. Haha!

Chuck really shines in his service to each customer. He has built friendships with numerous hospital staff members. His pastrami bacon melt is exceptional, but most people just refer to his sandwiches as "the Chuck special." You won't find better hospital food anywhere else, and the prices are quite reasonable. Most of the staff here are friendly and clearly take pleasure in what they do.
