However, we have double and triple checked that we could get a vegan korma again (we had said it was possible and ordered in past) and the gent said it would be good over the phone and in person. when we came to order, it was another guy and although it was my friend who actually asked for a vegan korma, the waiter quite aggressive to me said that there was no possibility to make a corma without cream, I just said okay and he went on and on. it was humiliating when everyone was watching in the restaurant and I was reduced to drinking. the gent with which we initially overheared and involved to tell the waiter that he should only tell the cook to use cocos milk. no excuse. I really wanted to go because I was so embarrassed and angry, but just stayed in my place as we had ordered and I didn't want to do any more of a scene. when our food came out, it was completely different from what we had received when we had ordered it last, so they wondered if we had just got a regular corma with milk when we had ordered the first time?
Very typical Indian restaurant of greasy sorte! not especially vegan friendly, nothing from the usual
We landed here because this was closed and the mex (near next door) was sooo busy. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. there are no selected vegan options on the menu, but as soon as we asked the waiter on vegan meals, he was very ambitious to show options or suggest meal times that can be made vegan on request, and he also discussed this with the cook. in this sight we felt very safe, which is not always the case. the food itself was also delicious. the place was packed (like everything in st. ives in the night, partly due to the fact that other restaurants were closed), so we had luck getting a table. because it was so full, it was loud and it took a while to come, but that is normal when the restaurant is so busy.
I ordered a takeaway from this restaurant. we tried to call when it was opened at 530, as it had read reviews for long waiting times and it even says on the flyer that at least 45mins-1hour wait. we couldn't get through, so we made a walk there to order personally. they were happy to create a mushroom saag balti for me (not on the menu) that was delicious. the saag aloo and bhajis were also very nice. they had from chapatien that was a cannon (her naan has milk in), and also note that they had a reduced menu during the peak season. we received a 1h 15min delivery time that arrived on time. so all round big eats but expect them to wait!
The staff were able to guide us through the vegan options. We had the vegetable Tawa (the speciality) we asked for it extra spicy (because we like our food extra spicy). It arrives on a hot skillet and is utterly delicious. We also had the Nawabi Kocho Aavaz (an unusual and delicious green vegetable curry) and the Bon Bujon (a mild chickpea curry) The portions were big and delicious. We had plain rice (only vegan option) and chapatti. Not the cheapest curry we have every had, but we would definitely recommend to vegans and vegetarians.
