When we arrive at noon for lunch the restaurant was empty. It was a sign, we should have left. The server was so unprofessional and awkward and she knew nothing about the menu. We expected a seafood restaurant and half the seafood menu items were scratched off the menu with pen and we're not available. I would not go back or recommend this to anyone.
Our meal was tasty, but the highlight was definitely the fish tacos (not what I'd have expected...). They're a "must try". Soft tacos, crispy chunk of cod in a tempura-style batter, with guacamole and mango sauce. That set the tone for the rest of the meal, which was good, overall. I think they're still working out a few kinks. They were out of a few menu items, but substituted some others. The servers double as drink-mixers, or at least they did the night we were there. Notwithstanding that, our server was very pleasant and helpful, we felt well treated. Lovely view, too.But we wish we'd ordered more fish tacos. Seriously.
The rating is because the service was great. If service had been poor it would have been lower. Our biggest upset about this place was that the only "local" beer Alexander Keith's. You would think that a local restaurant would support beers that are made right in St. John's, like iceberg. Apparently we expected too much.Chowder was sub par - no flavor and lukewarm, but the calamari was great. Seafood pasta was ok, lacked flavour. Lobster risotto was good. Overall it was so so, expectations were high likely because of being in a place well known for seafood. All desserts were home made except for the creme brule. It was fresh out of the fridge and still cold in the middle. All in all wouldn't go again or recommend. Far better places for a better price a short walk away.
We ate there recently with a group - it was very nice we had our own room. The food is very good - the best shrimp I have eaten - ever! Our table had a variety of things fish, chicken and some of us had the beef - it was very good. All very fresh ingredients.Service was very good and staff is very chearfull. There is art all over the walls on the restaurant which you can purchase - some pretty awesome ones depicting very typical scenes from st. john's. They are put there by a local gallery and they will pack and ship things to your home if you want.Great location - great views of the harbour.
