As a solo traveler, I felt ignored by the staff who seemed to not value single patrons. I waited a long time for my meal, then had to wait even longer for wine and dessert as the wait staff continuously walked by without acknowledging me. I eventually gave up and went to pay, only to have my bill paid for by another diner who saw how neglected I was. The cafe was not busy, yet the staff seemed more interested in chatting than attending to customers. Despite the amazing food and view, the snobby and indifferent service would prevent me from returning.
Reservations are not accepted at this restaurant, so you must sign up and call out your name in order to be seated. Unfortunately, they do not send a text when your table is ready, so you are left to wait in the restaurant instead of exploring the nearby museum. We waited for an hour to be seated, and there were only two wait staff members working. We waited a long time to place our order, and our drinks didn't arrive until our food did. We had to wait for water and utensils, and then again for the bill to be brought to us. The food did not live up to the long wait times. It's best to avoid this restaurant if there is a line outside.
When we arrived at The Rooms and discovered they had a cafe, we were expecting a more casual cafeteria style. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find a much fancier atmosphere! Luckily, we arrived at a good time and were seated right away, unlike others who had to wait for a table. The menu offered something for everyone's tastes, including Eggs Benedict. One of us opted for the vegetarian version, while I chose the Lentil Curry Soup, which was delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their Eggs Benedict and roasted potatoes, leaving nothing behind. While not budget-friendly, the restaurant is worth it for the beautiful view, especially if you can snag a window seat.
Enjoyed lunch at The Rooms. The location and views are spectacular and the food was the best we had in St. John’s. Menu had a few more items then was shown on the website. Would definitely recommend.
We try to take an elderly person out every Friday to a different place. They do not take reservations. So one is expected to line up or show up and see if they can get in, oh really? Very unusual. In these posts, I see...people having to wait minutes. I smell government-run operation.
