I was recommended this restaurant by Tolarno's, where I've been staying during my time in Melbourne.
This is Andrew McConnell's newest creation, taking the place of the former Golden Fields.
We came here looking for a French/European restaurant. It was very averge. The house wine by the glass was not nice. Two of us had the gnocchi as our main which whilst was nice, the portion was more entree size. Luckily the third person had the chicken which was fantastic and more than enough to give us some as well. The duck and fig entree was a good dish, the oysters were not shucked properly and some difficulty was encoutered in eating them.
Luxembourg brings a little European style sophistication to the top end of Fitzroy Street. We visited with another couple on a warm Friday evening. Service was attentive and knowledgable - wine advice was provided to guide us through the diverse list. The menu is limited in options but based on our sampling (anchovy starter, parfait, flounder, steak au poivre and vanilla napoleon), high on quality. The fish and steak were both perfectly cooked and flavoured in a more traditional French style. The parfait was to die for. Wine choice proved to be good too. Although priced slightly on the high side, Luxembourg is a place we will return to. Recommended.
