The menu features a variety of options including BBQ, catfish, burgers, and crawfish. I noticed many orders of crawfish going out during our visit. I opted for the surf and turf, which included pulled pork and a catfish filet, along with sides of cheese grits and onion rings. If I were solely judging the food, I would probably rate it around a 3. While the pork was decent, the onion rings were overcooked, and the cheese grits, though flavorful, were served lukewarm and a bit too thick. However, the catfish was outstanding—fresh and perfectly cooked with just the right amount of flakiness and flavor. We also had the chance to meet the owner, who was friendly and engaging. There's a substantial outdoor seating area, but since it was occupied by a private party, I didn’t get to see it clearly. Overall, I would recommend The Little Dooey. The experience alone makes it worth the visit, and the menu offers a diverse range of options that appeal to many tastes.
No fried eggplant!!!!! I am heartbroken!!!! Glad to try a shrimp only, though. I am sure the BBQ is delicious, as always!
I was very excited to visit the Little Dooey, with such an esteemed reputation. The front counter staff were super friendly and helpful and the restaurant was clean and inviting. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. My sandwich arrived barely warm. The cheese was not fully melted. Overlooking that, it was a tasty combination. It just would've been a lot better hot or even warm. I ordered coleslaw and macaroni and cheese for my sides. The coleslaw was excellent and made a nice complement to the sandwich. The Mac and cheese, unfortunately, was very bland. So, my review is mixed, and the four star rating is generous, only because I know they can do better than what I experienced!
We arrived just before 8:00 PM, and the website indicated a closing time of 9:00 PM. However, the staff was already cleaning up and informed us they actually planned to close at 8:00. This came off as quite rude. They also refused to serve the pre-made desserts for our children after our meal, citing the closing time, even though it was only 8:30 and the website said they were open until 9. Additionally, some of our food was served cold. Overall, the service was terrible, and it’s not the same experience we had three years ago!
Best BBQ I've ever had! The pulled pork was delicious. Also, the basket of fried pickles was massive and beyond worth it! The fried okra and greens were really good too. The service was great, it was adorable seeing the owner, older gentleman, still walking around helping.
