A little expensive for what we have, but it wasn't bad. Good lunch. I wouldn't say to avoid it, but I wouldn't say that's a must to eat here if you're in the area and nothing else seems good!
Our family went to lunch. The children loved the burger they shared, and the Wiener Scnitzel was good. The drinks were good, although not the cheapest in the city. Overall worth a visit.
During my regular visits to Staufen, this was always my favorite café. Sad I discovered that the café is no longer. The interior has been completely stripped and despite the excellent location no other company has moved in. I talked to a local who told me it was closed a year ago and he thought the owners had moved to Freiburg. I asked if it was because of the heavy cracks in the walls, but he didn't think so. A real shame!
Other than the yellow jackets swarming our table, which were plaguing restaurants all over Germany, this was the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely weekend breakfast. Situated right on Staufen's central plaza next to the town hall, be sure and sit outside where you can savor your buffet breakfast while people watching. (Don't miss Saturday market! The buffet choices are typical for breakfast in Germany...cold cuts, cheese, rolls, eggs, fruit...not too heavy on the sweets. (There are plenty of non-buffet baked goods for purchase. My caramel latte was LECKER...not too strong, not too sweet. Service was quietly functional. I must say it was kind of fascinating to watch the yellow jackets carve off massive pieces of our leftover cold cuts and fly off trembling with excitement and sheer exhaustion.
Für einen Kaffeehalt zwischendurch, ist es sehr draussen auf dem Platz zu sitzen und Treiben zu zugucken.
