Two couples dined here on Saturday evening. It wasn’t overly busy and we got seated without a reservation. Overall, food, service and atmosphere were terrific. Our server was very friendly and we didn’t feel rushed at any time during our visit. Tenderloin steaks and prime rib were perfectly done. Wife thoroughly enjoyed her maple salmon. 3 of us had French onion soup as an app. It was very hearty, and all 3 of us commented that it could have been a meal in itself as the bowl was huge. Only issue for the evening was with the Scallop app that wife had. She said it was simply delicious, with a tasty bacon jam and the scallops were melt in your mouth. But the portion seemed very small for the price. For $16 (over $21 with tax and gratuity), she was disappointed that there were only 3 scallops on the plate. That worked out to $7 per scallop! No wonder she wouldn’t share with me (LOL). Had the dish held 5 or 6 scallops, that would have been more reasonable. Anyway, lesson learned for our next visit. We will be back for some future special occasion, but won’t order the scallops.
My husband made a reservation for my birthday and even though we weren't on the books when we arrived, we were seated by the fireplace with a view of the window. I ordered a raspberry spritzer and we looked over the menu. We started with the Brie and curried mussels, followed by a glass of wine with our main courses: salmon for me and pork for my husband. For dessert, we enjoyed carrot cake and sticky pudding, along with a Spanish Coffee and Courvoisier. The meal was relaxed and the food came out quickly. Our server was attentive and in a small town like Newfoundland, this kind of dining experience was a real treat. We will definitely be returning in the future.
For my birthday, we decided to dine at Madison's restaurant. I was unsure of what to order, but eventually settled on the Honey Mustard Pork Chop dinner. It turned out to be one of the best meals I've had in a while. The only downside was the leaf of kale placed under the chop. Overall, all four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Our server provided excellent service and I was pleased with everything about our dining experience.
A recent 4 night trip to Corner Brook (winter vacation really shows that Corner Brook is lacking on the food scene......a quick view of the top rated restaurants on Trip Advisor will show that. Stayed at Marble Inn Suites so opted to dine in the hotel restaurant one night.....is billed as fine dining .....didn 't really get that...suspect fine dining more reflective of the price rather than the ambiance. The menu was not extensive, but offered a very good variety....and the wine options were quite good as well. We did find the prices a touch high for what we got (portion size . The lamb curry was very tender and flavorful but lacking somewhat on the lamb and big time on curry sauce......pizzas were wonderful but again, the 24 pricepoint was high...... Did feel a bit bad for our server who was trying to play the role of a fine dining waiter but struggled with the menu and pronunciation of a few of the specials (yikes! All in all very enjoyable.....would eat here again...a solid option for a visit to Corner Brook......don 't be scared away by the fine dining but be prepared to drop more than a few ....
