I drove my elderly mom there (a one hour drive , and we didn't realize we should make a reservation for a Tuesday. (DUH! It's fall foliage time! We had a 40-minute wait, so I got a drink from the bar, and the bartender, Matt S., went out of his way to go back to the kitchen to get my mom a hot coffee. (I don't know if he is attached, but any young ladies should go check him out if he's not! He is a handsome, kind man who went above and beyond for me and my elderly mom. Kari (hostess who I also saw bussing tables, laying out fresh tablecloths, and setting up silverware/napkins--she is amazing got us a lovely table by a big window. Liam, our server, was excellent as well. We even observed him taking photos for people who asked (and he is skilled at it ! Our food was good and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The lobby and other rooms are exquisitely beautiful and reminiscent of olden times. If you'd like an old-fashioned, elegant place to eat, I highly recommend The Red Lion Inn!
I'm leaving a review specific to the afternoon tea. Reservations and prepayment were required. The tea was on the higher price scale of what I've paid before. I love afternoon tea and was looking forward to this experience. The wait staff did a nice job. The room and place settings were good. The food was not. The tea sandwiches were ok but nothing outstanding and a bit on the skimpy side. The cheddar scone was dry, strawberry scone was the best bite of the day. The real disappointment came with the pastries which were nonexistent. In place, were cookies and macarons. None of the lush frosted desserts that I'm used to at tea. The actual tea beverages were good as well. I wouldn't recommend anyone spend money on this tea service.
BEYOND DISAPPOINTED!! For my husband's birthday, we flew into Boston (FROM PHOENIX) and drove 2 hours into Stockbridge, only for a hostess to tell us they didn't want to seat anymore! It was 2:24pm on a Saturday and it was NOT busy! What makes me SOOOO sad is that I probably won't be back for another 20 years! Completely heartbroken.
A $70 breakfast that took 45 minutes to get to us. No dinner reservation available before 8 PM two nights in a row. Find someplace else to eat.
