Barnacles - Stockton-on-Tees

We arrived late to the restaurant, which is conveniently located nearby, but the staff welcomed us warmly and allowed us to sit down. Everyone was extremely friendly, especially a helpful staff member. The food, including the cod and the hearty chips, was just as delicious as we had hoped. I highly recommend this place for its value, and they also serve great tea!

I've dined here about half a dozen times, with my most recent visit three weeks ago before getting COVID. I took advantage of the half-price deal. I live in the south and usually go with my local friends. The fish is always freshly fried, slightly crispy on the outside, and has a substantial amount of white meat. The chips could use a bit more crispness, as they tend to be on the soggy side. However, it's great value, especially with their takeaway prices and some excellent meal deals. The service is easygoing but fast and friendly. What’s not to like? This place could easily become a Stockton institution!

I had my first lunch here today (Good Friday), and I really enjoyed it! It was busy when we arrived, but we didn’t have to wait more than six minutes for our food. We ordered the "Heart of the Fisherman," which was plenty for both of us. The plate included one whole crab, one squid, five scampi, a salad (which had lettuce, tomato, and cucumber), lemon, all served on a bed of chips. The table service was excellent; they provided everything we needed, and the tartare sauce was a perfect match for the meal. The cutlery was neatly arranged, and I paid £13 for the meal plus a soft drink. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you!
