They claimed to have the best garlic fried chicken in town, and I’d argue you’d be hard-pressed to find better! I saw Fu at China Village, and I can confirm he's the one cooking now. With these changes, the food is even better. I recently took my wife and two adult kids, and we ordered the following dishes: 1. **Fried Green Beans**: This appetizer was plentiful, freshly fried, light, crispy, and well-seasoned. The sweet and sour sauce paired nicely, though I wish they offered ranch dressing. 2. **General Chicken**: The breaded, fried chicken nuggets were coated in a delightful salty-sweet dark red sauce that stayed crunchy despite the heaviness. The sauce was tangy and slightly spicy—suitable for everyone—and it came with excellent fried rice. This was better than I remembered! 3. **Lemon Chicken**: My wife's favorite, featuring lightly breaded and fried chicken breast that was crispy yet moist. The lemony sweet sauce was fantastic. 4. **Walnut Shrimp**: Battered, fried shrimp tossed in a sweet white sauce was a standout. The shrimp had no fishy smell and were succulent and crunchy. The sauce was sweet but not overwhelming, with walnuts mixed in. It was excellent! 5. **Chicken with Mixed Veggies**: This dish featured tender white meat stir-fried with carrots, snow peas, and onions cooked to perfection. The black bean sauce added a savory and slightly sweet flavor. 6. **Ginger Chicken Chow Mein**: This chow mein lacked vegetables but was infused with ginger—a dish my wife created with Fu's help back at George's in the '90s. Since Fu is now here, she requested it from our waitress. Though the waitress was confused, we assured her that Fu knows exactly how to make it. He did not disappoint—it was spectacular! With these recent updates, China Village has become our go-to Chinese hole in the wall in Stockton! Those who know should visit, and for those who haven't tried it, please do! This meal was fantastic. The service was equally good—lovely women served us, kept our drinks refilled, and checked on us regularly. Their English may not be perfect, but it was sufficient. Go there as soon as possible for a great meal!
I've been visiting this restaurant for the past couple of years, even before the change in ownership, and the food has always been excellent! Just a heads up: when you call to place an order, it's not someone from the restaurant taking your call. They use an offsite ordering system, which can be a bit confusing if you're not familiar with the restaurant. If possible, I recommend going there in person; it's definitely worth the trip, and the staff is fantastic! If you haven't tried this place yet, I highly recommend it. My husband and I typically order the General Tso's chicken with the sauce on the side, barbecue pork fried rice, and mixed steamed vegetables—extra broccoli, please! Give them a shot; you won't be disappointed!
I was downtown and looking for a place to take my family to lunch. My dad is a picky eater so we decided on China Village. The restaurant is small and cozy and the tables fill up fast. There is street parking out in front. The service is great and the staff is nice and friendly. We ordered a couple of dishes. The food is really good and priced very reasonably. We had the Mapo Tofu, Mixed Vegetables, Chow Mein, Chicken and black bean sauce, and a chicken combo plate. We ended up with a lot of left overs. I look forward to coming back here again.
One of the best food I ever had thanks to yin for making my food the way I like it I will be coming back
I happened to be in the area for lunch. I was craving Chinese food. I Yelped of course, and found this spot. It 's located in a cute little village with several small shops. There is limited parking on the street so you may have to walk a bit. The storefront is a little hidden but thanks to Maps, I found it. It looks like a very old establishment but I was greeted as I walked in. I placed an order for Mongolian beef and upgraded the side to chow mein for an extra $3, so $13 total. It was a little higher than I expected, considering Chinese takeout. I waited for about 5 to 10 minutes for my food. At first, I felt like the food was really greasy, so if you like greasy, this is your spot. The Mongolian had a lot of onions in it but it balanced out the flavor nicely. After a few bites and some napkins, i was able to enjoy it. The greasiness and the MSG got me. There are other Chinese takeout places for less but this did have a unique taste to it that I ended up enjoying.
