Feedback gevenBarbaresco is a phenomenal restaurant which breaks the mold of dining in San Antonio. When you walk through the magnificent doors you are greeted by the friendly employees and breathtaking ambiance. The wood work is spectacular amongst the intriguing art work. My husband had the rack of lamb and enjoyed every bite. I had the sea scallops which was cooked to perfection. After diner we enjoyed the evening sipping cocktails on the outdoor patio as music played. This wonderful gem is minutes from our neighborhood and has wonderful lunch special, a great happy hour and is a perfect spot for dinner.
I should say that this was a New Years Eve early dinner (7pm), and was probably not the best day for our first visit. After reading many reveiws, Bararesco seemed almost too good to be true; well, this was definitly correct. The set menu started with, what turned out to be an excellent appetizer of Seared scallop with black peppercorn- orange sauce and crab cake with warm mixed greens. From here the food went downhill. For the second coarse I had an acceptable Spinch Salad but the Lobster Bisque my partner had was watery and almost devoid of Lobster meat. The entree's; I had a Beef Tenderloin, my partner had a Fontina Cheese stuffed Veal Chop; had about as much taste as Wet Cardboard. The desserts, Chocolate Hazelnut Cake and Lemon Cheesecake, were medicore at best. The atmosphere was OK but definatly not Italian and the service was acceptable. We will probably not go back, as there are many far superior, Italian Eaterys In SA.
First of all, I do not know anyone associated with this restaurant. We just drove down from Austin for the day and stumbled in, and wow! We LOVE this new restaurant! Right away the visuals grabbed me. Stunning architecturally pleasing interior was like a world class gallery. Enormous paintings, artisan crafted interior wood columns, and beautiful fixtures took my breath away. (Be sure to visit the restroom). I had the lunch special of tomato bisque soup with crouton and chevre, and the chicken mushroom farfalle. Both were excellent. My husband had a prime rib panini that was incredibly flavorful, served with arugula salad and he loved his as well. Lunch prices are very reasonably priced. We also loved the delicious bread and dipping EVOO with balsamic vinegar and cracked pepper.
