I was assured that I could cancel within the specified window, so I went ahead and canceled my reservation. Even if there was a misunderstanding on my part regarding the dates, I expected to receive half of my payment back according to their website's policies. Unfortunately, I never received a callback. When I finally spoke with the manager, she spoke about me dismissively and told me I needed to send an email, which I did, but I never received a response. To clarify, I never actually stayed there, canceled my reservation eight days before the scheduled date, and was still charged the full price. Please think carefully before deciding to do business with them. I might even consider reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.
The sliding door to the balcony barely opened, and I had concerns about potential flooding. There were no chairs outside to sit and enjoy the view. As is typical of European buildings, the balcony was covered, which is useful in less-than-perfect weather, but it still allows for some fresh air. Between the bedroom and bathroom, there was a tidy dressing/powder area that I didn't use, but I appreciated its classic design. As for the bathroom, it seemed to have received a $500 makeover in recent years. Unfortunately, half of that budget was spent on silicone caulking and paint. The area behind the toilet was not painted, and the caulking had numerous gaps, cracks, and uneven applications, resembling a novice's first attempt. The rest of the budget appeared to have gone towards poorly installed tiles. The shower and toilet worked fine, but you shouldn't expect anything professionally done. The entire place could benefit from the skills of two qualified carpenters or master repair technicians; I'm sure they would have plenty of work here year-round. This property is in desperate need of a complete overhaul—not necessarily a change in style, but the maintenance of windows, doors, ventilation, stairs, balconies, roofs, and more requires significant attention. Unfortunately, the Fritz Restaurant and Bar were closed during our stay (June 2022), which was quite disappointing, as it left you with few dining or drink options nearby. I would have liked to visit the bar if it had been open. The bed was mediocre—nothing to write home about. The pillows, on the other hand, were a major issue. I have above-average shoulder width, and I could have used a pillow half as thick. Thankfully, the window air conditioning unit was easy to operate and kept us cool throughout the night. Checkout was quick and simple, which was appreciated since we didn't sleep well due to the overly thick pillows and what felt like paper-thin walls. We left early as a result. Overall, it was a disappointing stay considering the cost ($250 with tax and fees). At a price point of $100 per night, I might have considered it a decent deal, but I would recommend spending your money elsewhere, such as booking a room at the Von Trapp Family Lodge.
We held our wedding at the Stowehof, and it was simply perfect! We were looking for a unique Vermont venue that wasn't overly crowded, allowing our guests to enjoy a weekend on the property without needing to leave. We had exclusive use of the accommodations for our guests, which made the experience even more special for our wedding day. The property itself is stunning, and our wedding photos turned out wonderfully diverse and beautiful. Our wedding planner, Lindsey Leichthammer, collaborated closely with the Stowehof team to ensure that everything went off without a hitch. We can't wait to return for our anniversary in the future, and we wholeheartedly recommend the Stowehof for anyone looking to host their wedding!
It was excellent for many reasons. First and foremost was the location of The Stowehof, in Stowe Vermont. Makes you feel like you are in Switzerland. Secondly, the service, the hotel itself was so beautiful in a rustic, quaint way which perfectly blended to the beautiful scenery. Thirdly, the room and the place was so peaceful and quiet. Even if there are people, you don't hear anything when you are in the room. The receptionist who welcomed us was so friendly and helpful. And most of all, the lobby had games, and free flowing coffee, tea and hot chocolate all day long!!! Amazing stay and I'll definitely comeback to the Stowehof next time I'm in Vermont again. Thank you!!!
We loved the view of our room and how rustic the hotel was. We really enjoyed the sauna and the pool. Our bed is one we will miss?very comfortable and large. However, there were some things that needed work, in and outside our room. It is clear that there are some staffing issues leaving less attention to smaller details but we had a great time. We hope to return when it?s colder to sit by the lounge?s fireplace.
