Gene's Restaurant - Stratford

Same Chinese Food menu as you would have seen in the 60's. Classics done just as you would expect. Perfectly cooked and presented every time. This is about as textbook a Chinese restaurant as you can get.

Average Food and Prices - a pretty typical place. Nothing especially notable either good or bad. Downtown location.

On Saturday, I took my family of seven out for dinner here because it had always been a long time favorite of the family. However, we won't be going back. The service was terrible, it took 15 minutes to order our drinks and another 15 for them to arrive. The coffee was cold and our waitress couldn't be bothered to bring any more. She didn't bother to ask if anyone needed more ice water either. We waited for our food for almost an hour and not once did she acknowledge that we were there. When the food did arrive, egg rolls came first, a full 15-20 minutes before the meal. Half of us received cold food and when we mentioned it to our waitress, she said that if we were unhappy with the food. It would be approximately 45 minutes for it to be replaced. I was flabbergasted, I simply sent the food back and cancelled the order. At which point she was angry with me. I was polite and friendly the entire time. However, I won't bother to eat here again.

Good food, great flavour, and they will cook Vegan options. I have been going to this for many years and have never ever had a complaint. The owner and his wife are fantastic.
