Oldfields Fish And Chips - Stroud

My husband visited the restaurant last night around 8pm and ordered chicken and chips with curry sauce. However, I was shocked to discover that my chicken wing was undercooked and very pink near the bone after eating most of it. I immediately stopped eating, fearing a possible stomach ache. The curry sauce was overly thick and heavy, not as tasty as it used to be. On a positive note, the chips were delicious. My husband noticed signs indicating that the staff were in training and to be patient and polite, but I was disappointed with the quality of the food on this particular occasion.

I have been visiting Oldfields in Longwell Green for years. I ordered two large portions of chips, but both boxes only had enough for one large portion. This was only the second time I had to ask the staff to add more chips. The staff member who served me this time rudely added what I had paid for.

I have been a regular visitor to Oldfields for years, but I have noticed inconsistency in their quality ranging from good to terrible. Unfortunately, the standard has been declining over the past year and a half. During my visit on April 24th, the fish I ordered had soggy batter on one side and was hard on the other. The fishcakes were also only lukewarm. I recommend that the owners supervise the operations more closely or review their CCTV footage to address any issues. If they do not improve, they risk losing customers who will seek other dining options.

Popped in tonight for fish and chips and it was probably the best I’ve ever had. I was served by a young girl who was bubbly and friendly. Food was fresh and great tasting would highly recommended

I have used Oldfields many many times before but find their quality variable. On 7th April 2021 I visited and, as well as fish, I ordered Rib. I was served by a lad who was NOT Customer Friendly at all, being sharp and abrupt with no normal pleasant greeting. I was told that I 'd have to wait for the rib to be cooked, the he Ordered me to stand outside although there was space in the shop whilst allowing social distancing. After some time he called me into the shop to collect my purchases. These were already wrapped without asking if I 'd like salt vinegar on my fish. He had to unwrap and re-wrap. I collected the food and drove away to eat in my car. When I unwrapped the rib, it was overcooked so much that the crackling was black!! there was a thick layer of fat with just a very little meat attached. I was just too far away for me to return to the take-away and report it. (I don 't know what sort of reaction I would have got from the lad anyway). They have now lost my custom as this was the last straw. Never again.
