Juanita's - Subiaco

Popped in on a Tuesday afternoon and it was surprisingly fullNot packed to the rafters full, just full of atmosphere full.

This small bar with lots of cool art deco stuff has a limited menu and wine list but it is really good.

Get a glass of wine and a share platter and you will not be disappointed.

I have never been to an establishment where you are treated which such arrogance.  My husband and I went for a drink last night as we left Subiaco. We had heard mixed reviews about Juanita's and decided we would stop in for a relaxing glass of wine. We had heard that this was the place to go if you wanted to enjoy a glass of wine, but we were very disappointed. We decided to sit at a free table out the front of the building which had four seats around it. I sat down and Terrance went to get us two glasses of wine. I was told that I could only sit at the table if I had a drink. I explained that we had just arrived and my husband had just gone to the bar to buy me a drink.  It took more than ten minutes for Terrance to return with two very large glasses with very little wine in them.  For the next 20 minutes, our conversation was interrupted by what appeared to be friends of the staff smoking at their tables, staff disagreeing and debating with each other and the most distracting smell of a smouldering dirty barbeque. When Terrance informed a young lady about the smell and the people smoking at the table he was told by a young lady she would tell them to stop as it wasn't allowed, which we both appreciated. But we were shocked to discover that they were not asked to stop but instructed by the young lady to better hide their smoking and told that we had complained.  Instead of enjoying a relaxing glass of red after a very stressful week, we both left anxious and disappointed. Terrance thinks it might have new owners, which makes sense as it was nothing like what we have been told. Service: 1 Decor: 2 Ambience: -1 Wine selection: 5 Value for money: 1 Terrance like the decor, it's old and tired. It's what you would expect to see in your husband shed. Not what I feel you should be seated on to drink a very expensive and extremely unfulfilling glass of red. Very disappointed.
