The waitress was very nice. Large selection on the menu. We had to wait awhile for the food. I had fried green tomatoes which were delicious and came with more than I expected, hubby had shrimp which he ate all of and said were good. He got pulled pork and sides for his meal and said everything was good. I got the cold chicken salad plate and was disappointed. The eggs were boiled instead of deviled, and the chicken salad was very plain. Came with a lot of garnishments but not enough to eat with the chicken salad. I asked for some crackers to go with it but she never brought them so I stole hubby's toast and made it work. Sides were ok, sweet potato fries weren't that good. We didn't see nor were offered dessert. $60 for 2 people for lunch. Not a new fav, but I would try again I'd like to try the crabcakes.
The husband and I moved to Holland a little over a year ago. The Turnip was closed due to the pandemic so it took us awhile to get here but man it was worth the wait. The good was fresh and reasonably priced. Good portions but not trough sized. The staff was GREAT. Laid back, friendly, cool. We WILL be back!
When we entered, we were warmly welcomed and asked if we had a reservation—this must mean the food is really something special! We arrived at 10:55, but our food didn’t arrive until noon. Out of the three dishes we ordered, the Meatzilla was definitely the standout. The Crabacado was underwhelming, filling the plate but lacking in imagination. The crab cake mixed into the omelette was overly breaded, which sweetened its taste too much for my liking. The grits, served alongside, seemed to have been prepared long before the omelette, resulting in a thick crust by the time our meal came out. I ordered the Upstream Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was light and creamy, but the salmon was a bit undercooked for my taste, so I opted to skip the red onion and capers. Overall, The Plaid Turnip offers a delightful presentation. The establishment has a wonderful aroma upon entering, although you might find yourself getting full just from the enticing smells while waiting for your food. I don’t attribute this delay to the restaurant itself but rather to DoorDash and other delivery services, as they were prioritizing online orders due to being overwhelmed. All in all, it wasn’t a bad experience, and I plan to visit again during a quieter season when we return.
I absolutely loved it! Nestled inside the Suffolk Cultural Center, it's a bit hard to locate, but definitely worth the search. I tried the fried shrimp and fried flounder, and both dishes were excellent. The prices are reasonable, and the service was fantastic. They also offer a wonderful breakfast.
Delicious food and generous portions. It's a bit challenging to locate since their move, but it's definitely worth the effort.
